Come listen to the Skagit Valley Chorale as it is joined by a small chamber orchestra to explore a variety of rhythmic themes in chorale music across the centuries. The Chorale will start with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, performing several selections from his beautiful cantatas featuring the joy and drive of a master Baroque composer. They will jump a couple of centuries and an ocean to explore the folk dance and jazz rhythms embodied in American music, sampling chorale favorites by composers like Aaron Copland and Eric Whitacre. The men of the chorale will harmonize in a favorite cowboy song. Lyrical works by the modern composers Carol Thomas Downing and Ola Gjeilo will fill out the program.
